A triple protection product, advantix is designed not only to repel and kill ticks and fleas but also to kill and repel mosquitoes before they can bite. Effective ingredients in advantix include imidacloprid and permethrin which work synergistically together against parasites. In other words, the action of imidacloprid complements the activity of permethrin. Applied topically once a month, k9 advantix is designed to be gentle enough for puppies 7 weeks of age or older and dogs of any size. It is also designed to work for up to four weeks and to maintain it's effectiveness after swimming and bathing. However, K9 advantix contains certain compounds that could be adverse to the feline physiology and metabolism, therefore, k9 advantix is for dogs only and it should never be used on cats.

Advantage Flea and Advantix K9 - Differences & Similarities
Advantage products and K9 Advantix all contain the ingredient imidacloprid to repel fleas, are applied topically, monthly and are water resistant. However, k9 advantix contains an additional ingredient, permethrin, that advantage products do not have. Permethrin works in combination with the imidacloprid to control fleas, ticks and mosquitoes, something that advantage products alone cannot do. A very important reminder, K9 Advantix is designed for dogs only because it has ingredients that should never be used on felines, as a matter of fact, it should not even be used on dogs if there is a chance that a cat may lick or groom that canine. Advantage products, other than Advantix, are available for both dogs and cats in a traditional variety for fleas and a new multi variety that helps control both fleas and heartworms.
