What do you think about microchips for your pet? 2007/05/10 15:31
I have mixed emotions about getting a microchip for my cat. It is supposed to help you find your pet if he is lost, but I have heard that some of them do not even work properly. If this is the case, then what is the point?

This is a great ide, with a microchip there is always that little bit of hope if your cat or dog or other animal every goes missing

I'm kind of leary of anything being implanted under the skin. It kind of creeps me out. Also where I live I don't think people would think about checking for a microchip. It isn't a popular thing around here so it would be a waste for me. We just keep our cat in the house.

The chipping it in case its lost thing is about as bogus as fingerprinting your children. It has that "feel good" sound but is hiding the truth. Its not like they are a GPS locater. The only way it might help you relocate a lost or stolen pet would be if by some chance it was taken to a vet that bothered reading the encoding and looking up the record and noting whether the person with the animal was the same.

Call it conspiracy theory if you want, but the pet chipping program was funded by the government as a means of working the bugs out of the technology before trying it with humans. Don't think so? Californians had to vote down a proposition about chipping newborns just a couple of years ago.

You make a very good point about microchips are like fingerprints. It does seems like a nice concept, I just don't know how effective it is.
